In 1997, she started acting when she was 13 years old. Her acting debut came in the year 1997, at age 13. Following her studies and acting as a background actor in Canadian shows like Road to Avonlea, Harriet the Spy and Goosebumps and was offered an interview in the Canadian horror show Are You afraid of the Dark? and Goosebumps. The two series were broadcast by YTV. "2" Following commercials, she played a her role in Goosebumps as well as other movies, which included The Dresden Files (Mom's had an Date with a Vampire, Alley Cats Strike, Prom Queen, The Marc Hall Story) Vandervoort was offered the lead role on CTV's drama for teens called Instant Star. The show ran for four seasons. The first movie she acted in, The Lookout, was made in the year the year 2006. The Lookout starred Jeff Daniels along with Matthew Goode as well as Isla Fischer. Vandervoort's TV career started with CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Then, she was offered the part of Clark Kent's Kryptonian cousin "Kara Kent", (the woman who was later to become Supergirl) as part of The CW serial-drama show Smallville. In the seventh season, she became a regular on the series. The episode she appeared on was "Bloodline" which was the episode of season 8. The show returned to Smallville for two episodes in the finale season that was her 10th season. Following The CW, Vandervoort shot The sequel to the film Into the Blue titled Into the Blue 2 : The Reef. The Jazzman was her next independent film. The film also featured Canadian actor Michael Ironside and Corey Sevier.
